Last Tuesday we got the wonderful news that the commisison involved with the race sport in the Netherlands decided that Dutch Basenjis can now get a race licence as well! This means that, if the Dutch Kennel Club agrees, Basenjis are allowed to compete in official matches!

Yesterday the Windhonden Renvereniging Zuid-Holland organized a National Race. Mirtillo, Moyo, Ch'ami and Dana were invited to represent the Basenji during a demonstration run. They did a great job and really showed what Basenjis can do at the race track. By doing this, they convinced the organization to invite them for the next National Race in Rotterdam. This will be held on Ascension Day, May 17 2012. All other Basenjis with experience at the race track are also welcome! The pictures of yesterday's run can be found here. The Dutch Basenji Club organized a trip to the Zoo in Amersfoort yesterday. Of course we joined and we had a lovely morning. In the picture on the left you can see Daya and Aoide staring at the ring-tailed lemur and in the pictures below are Aoide and Mirtillo watching a cheeta and meeting a baboon and some of the other Basenjis that were present. The rest of the pictures can be found here. Last saturday we went to the race track training organized by the Windhonden Renvereniging Zuid-Holland in Rotterdam. Yvonne and Kees train here with their Basenjis Ch'ami, Dana and Moyo. They were looking for a dog who could run with Moyo during a demo. Tillo had to take that role upon him ;) He ran well, but could not quite keep up with Moyo. Of course he still had the biggest fun and for us it was nice to see him run with another Basenji. The pictures can be found on our Flickr account. Monday we had an appointment with the owners of Nelson and Kaya to go for a walk in a forrest near Arnhem. Nelson and Kaya are Basenji puppies of about the same age as Aoide. The weather wasn't what we hoped for and we walked a large part in the rain, but the puppies had fun anyway. Especially Nelson and Kaya had a great time running with eachother. Aoide was busy drying her feet, which isn't really going to be a success if you're walking in rain puddles ;) Of course we made pictures of this walk as well! They can be found here. This Easter weekend we made some lovely walks in the forrest close to our home. A good opportunity for the dogs to stretch their legs and for us to take some pictures of them. A selection can be found beneath this post, the rest can be found here.
Yesterday we went to the Zoo in Amersfoort with Mirtillo and Aoide. It was Aoide's first time and she was very brave. Mirtillo has been there more often and it's always fun to see how the animals react to the dogs. A lot of them come up to the window to find out who's there to visit them. Back in the car Aoide gave one big sigh and she was asleep, probably dreaming about all her adventures. Mirtillo was sitting in the back, looking very satisfied. All in all, a successful afternoon! A couple of pictures are surrounding this post. You can click on them for a larger version. The rest of the pictures can be found here. |
